Solar energy is the cleanest, most abundant, renewable energy source available. Today's technology allows us to capture this power in several ways giving the public and commercial entities flexible ways to employ both the heat and light of the Sun. There are three ways we harness solar energy: solar photovoltaics (converting light to electricity), solar heating and cooling systems (solar thermal) and concentrating solar power (utility scale). Solar energy is the fastest growing renewable energy source in the world and has shown tremendous growth in the last years. This has been driven by a more than 50% decline in solar costs which continues to decline further. Solar energy has already reached grid parity in places like Italy and Hawaii and will do so in more places in the coming 2-3 years. According to solar electricity will really take off in 2030, and by the end of this century be the all-dominant energy source with over 50% share of the global energy mix.
